The transformation of cars to create a Convertible, rarely gives a really nice result. The Citroën ID/DS is an exception. Citroën didn’t make the DS Convertible itself, but asked the coachbuilder Henri Chapron to do the job. Citroën supplied a rolling chassis with the hood and the front fenders on it. The other important parts, but not the panels, where included in boxes. Chapron reinforced the chassis, but didn’t shorten the wheelbase. Chapron extended the original doors with 18 cm and made the rest of the body panels themselves. In total there are 770 DS19, 483 DS21 and 112 DS19's built.

First registered on April 16th 1973, this Citroën DS 21 was treated from late 1990 until 2000, to a complete restoration by Blikwerk Garage of Drachten, Netherlands. They are acknowledged experts in the restoration of this model, which had purchased many of the tools, dies and jigs used by Chapron in his factory at Levallois, outside Paris. The restoration and conversion was carried out to the highest standards and great care was taken to create the Chapron details in all respects. Wherever possible either new original Citroën parts were used or parts made using the original Chapron formers. The attention to detail is quite outstanding.

In 2014 the current owner, a Citroën enthusiast, was able to buy the DS. Despite its good condition, he decided to have the car completely resprayed and invested another € 20.000,-- in improvements and new parts. This semi-automatic transmission DS is painted in Blue D'Orient, an official colour from 1973, with a blue leather interior, while the hood is dark blue also. The car is equipped with Lucas lights - the rear clusters comprised 4 small round lamps. The car comes with 2 sets of keys.
