In the 1980s, the Club of 4 was a collaboration between the four car manufacturers Alfa Romeo, FIAT, Lancia and SAAB. This collaboration resulted in a new E-segment model for each car manufacturer. The use of several common components resulted in greatly reduced development costs. Result of the collaboration: Alfa Romeo 164, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Saab 9000. The relationship is most obvious between Saab, Fiat and Lancia. These models have several common parts while the Alfa Romeo 164 only has the same chassis. For example, the Saab 9000 doors are identical to the Croma & Thema, just like the windscreen. Giorgetto Giugiaro's ItalDesign was responsible for the design of the Fiat, Saab and Lancia. The Alfa Romeo V6 engine (also called the Busso V6) is a 60° V6 engine made by Alfa Romeo from 1979 to 2005. It was developed in the early 1970s by Giuseppe Busso, and first used on the Alfa 6 with a displacement of 2.5 L (2,492 cc) and a SOHC 12-valve cylinder head. The Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection was added for the 1983 Alfa 6. The 2-valve engine ended its life in the Alfa 155. The Croma had the 2.5 with 159 pk (117 kW, 157 hp) from 1985 till 1996.

A car imported from Switzerland, according to the owner - a model enthusiast, it is one of only 30 units with this excellent engine sold on the Swiss market. Also unique is the bright leather upholstery, which is extremely rare in these cars. The car was regularly used, complete service documentation is preserved, the current mileage is 172 thousand kilometer. The car is mostly preserved with its original paint coating. Only the front grille and hood (pebble scuffs), one fender (there was a coin-sized clear coat chip) and the rear spoiler were repainted.

Clutch and brakes changed during previous service in 2021, mileage 169700 km. Timing changed in 2017 with a mileage of 160.000 km.
