The Dauphine (R1094), was a small, four door, four cylinder, water cooled rear engined four-seater saloon that put out 30 hp and later 32 hp, while it’s pleasant and original body was designed by Robert Barthaud together with Ghia. The car was light, practical and economical, but the road holding was much criticised.
Renault manufactured the Dauphine at its Flins factory. The Dauphine was also manufactured worldwide. In Italy Alfa Romeo built the Dauphine. In an effort to saturate their factories production and slip into a lower segment of the Italian market, Alfa Romeo signed an accord with Renault. And in October 1958, the heart of the contract became the production under licence and distribution of the Dauphine – the successful Project 109 – the assembly line of which flanked that of the Giulietta, even though many components still came from France.
Renault had with the Dauphine the brilliant plan of stowing the spare wheel separately under the floor, hinging the front number plate to provide access to it.
This is the most luxurious “Export” model, specially made for selling outside of France. In other European countries they wanted better brakes so they installed disc brakes. The car has a 4-speed gearbox, specially delivered on the Export models, instead of the standard 3-speed.
This Dauphine in Amazon Green Metallic was imported to the Netherlands in 1999. Car has Holland title and Holland mot/tuv. Easy to register in every EU country. You do not need to pay any import taxes. We can help with transport.
